Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust provides acute and specialist hospital care for more than 1.2 million people across central and south Essex. Its three principal acute sites are Basildon University Hospital, Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford and Southend University Hospital, with additional services at Braintree, Maldon, Orsett and community locations.
The Trust delivers emergency and planned care, medicine, surgery, maternity, children's services, cancer treatment, critical care and diagnostics across its hospital network. Individual sites retain important specialist roles: Broomfield houses the St Andrew's Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns, while Basildon provides regional cardiothoracic expertise. Bringing the three acute hospitals into one trust allows specialist teams, clinical pathways and investment to be coordinated across a large and varied population.
