The NHS Tech Register is a free guide of the technology being used across NHS trusts in England, brought to you by 6B.
We wanted to make it easier for digital health innovators to see the systems in use across NHS trusts - whether you are exploring a new market, preparing for a conversation with a trust, planning an integration, or trying to understand where a product may fit, we hope the register provides a useful place to start.
There are a few important nuances to bear in mind when using the register:
- Finding this information can be surprisingly difficult. We gather register data from trust websites, procurement notices, Freedom of Information responses, supplier announcements, industry publications and news articles, and validated suggestions from the healthtech community.
- The data in the register is our best attempt from the methods listed above, however NHS tech changes continually, and it is tricky to capture every contract/migration/local configuration/etc perfectly - so please bear in mind the data might not be completely accurate!
- A trust may operate more than one product within the same technology category, particularly following a merger, or while moving from one platform to another, when this is the case we have captured all systems we believe to be in use and any systems the trust is moving to (e.g. when a new contract has been signed).
- Many trusts comprise of multiple hospitals, running different systems, where this is the case we have listed all systems we are aware of operating across the trust.
- A newly contracted system may be included before it is fully live if the available evidence shows that the trust has committed to the change.
- An older system may remain in use in part of an organisation after a replacement programme has begun, and where this is the case the system is listed at the trust.
- Product ownership and branding can change, which can make the same underlying technology appear under different names over time.
The register should be treated as a research tool, rather than a definitive statement of a trust's live technical architecture. Hopefully it can help identify patterns, support early discovery and give teams a more informed starting point, but important commercial, technical or strategic decisions should always be checked with the trust or supplier concerned.
We are continuing to improve the breadth, accuracy and freshness of the data as new information becomes available. We appreciate that people working within NHS organisations, suppliers, and the wider digital health community will often have better or more recent information than we can find publicly - so if something is missing, or if something does not look right, please use the “Suggest a change” option on the relevant page - every correction and addition helps make the register more useful for the community.
