Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust provides acute hospital, community health and adult social-care services for approximately 292,000 residents, with demand rising substantially during the summer visitor season. Torbay Hospital is its main acute site, supported by community hospitals and teams working from clinics, local facilities and people's homes.
Created in 2015, it was England's first NHS organisation to integrate hospital and community healthcare with social care. Around 6,700 staff provide emergency, planned, outpatient, rehabilitation and home-based support, designing services around what matters to each person and enabling care closer to home. Partnerships with local councils, GPs, hospices and voluntary organisations are fundamental to its model, particularly for older people and communities experiencing coastal health inequalities.
