Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the main acute hospital provider for around 300,000 people in west and north Dorset, Weymouth and Portland, and Purbeck. Its modern district general hospital is based in Dorchester, with staff also working in community hospitals, GP surgeries, schools, residential homes and patients' homes.

The trust provides emergency, medical, surgical, maternity, children's, outpatient and diagnostic services, with satellite units in five community hospitals. Its renal service covers a much wider population across Dorset and South Somerset. Dorset County Hospital works in a federation with Dorset HealthCare, sharing strategic leadership while remaining a separate organisation, to connect acute, mental health and community services and improve care across the county.
