University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust serves more than 800,000 people from Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Poole Hospital and Christchurch Hospital. Formed in 2020 by merging the Bournemouth and Poole hospital trusts, it employs over 9,000 staff and provides general acute care for communities extending from Purbeck to the New Forest and south Wiltshire.
Its specialist services include the Dorset Cancer Centre, Dorset Heart Centre, east Dorset's major trauma unit and a recognised hip-and-knee replacement service. Royal Bournemouth is developing as the principal emergency hospital, while Poole is becoming the major planned-care centre. Christchurch focuses on rehabilitation, palliative care, rheumatology and dermatology. The trust combines these complementary sites with clinical education, research and a substantial programme of hospital redevelopment.
