University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust provides acute, community, rehabilitation and specialist care across Plymouth and the wider South West peninsula. Its local secondary-care population is around 475,000, while almost two million people across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly can access regional specialist services.
Derriford Hospital is the peninsula's largest specialist teaching hospital and major-trauma centre, with expertise including neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, kidney transplantation and pancreatic cancer surgery. The trust also runs Mount Gould, Tavistock and South Hams hospitals, urgent and minor-injury centres, dialysis and child-development facilities. University partnerships support education and research, while nearly 200 military clinicians work within its services through Joint Hospital Group South West, reflecting Plymouth's strong defence links.
