Epic

Epic Beaker is the laboratory information system within the wider Epic record. It manages clinical laboratory and anatomic pathology workflows, connecting patient and order information with specimen collection, accessioning, processing, results, verification and reporting. Standard interfaces send orders to analysers and receive instrument or point-of-care results, while middleware can translate messages across different laboratory devices. Beaker can route work to external or reference laboratories and return results to the shared patient chart. Its digital-pathology integrations link case and slide information with third-party image-management systems so pathologists can open whole-slide images from their workflow. Each NHS laboratory configures disciplines, rules, instruments, labels, quality controls and network arrangements to match its local pathology service.
