About Epic
Epic supports electronic prescribing and medicines administration through integrated order entry, the Willow pharmacy applications and the electronic medication administration record. Prescribers can place medication orders with patient context and clinical decision support, pharmacists can verify and prepare medicines, and nurses can document administration, including barcode-supported workflows where deployed. Medication reconciliation connects prior and current treatment across admission, transfer and discharge. Interfaces can exchange verified orders and dispensing activity with automated cabinets, robots and external pharmacy systems, while inventory modules coordinate stock. Because medicines data remain in the shared Epic chart, teams can relate treatment to allergies, results, observations and diagnoses. Formularies, warnings, protocols, devices and closed-loop functions are configured separately by each NHS organisation.
