About Microsoft SharePoint

Microsoft SharePoint is a configurable content and collaboration platform that can provide electronic document management for organisational records. Document libraries store files with metadata, content types, version history, search and permissions, while workflows can route material for review, approval or retention. Sites and lists allow teams to organise policies, forms and supporting information and to collaborate through Microsoft 365. In healthcare it may be configured for controlled corporate or clinical-document processes and integrated with other applications. SharePoint is not a specialist patient-record EDMS by default: patient matching, scanning, clinical indexing, legal retention, disposition, audit design and in-context EPR access require appropriate configuration, governance and often additional components.
