The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of district general hospital services for nearly half a million people across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and mid Wales. Almost all activity takes place at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, which together have just over 700 beds.
Both sites provide emergency, outpatient, diagnostic, inpatient medical and critical-care services. Princess Royal is the principal centre for inpatient women's, children's and head-and-neck care, while Royal Shrewsbury is the main centre for acute surgery. The trust also delivers consultant outreach, renal dialysis, community midwifery, audiology and therapies. Its two hospitals are being reconfigured through a major transformation programme intended to improve emergency and planned-care pathways.
