About Cisco Secure Client
Cisco Secure Client, formerly centred on AnyConnect, is a modular endpoint application for protected access to organisational networks and applications. It can establish and automatically maintain encrypted VPN connections for staff working away from an NHS site, while optional modules add device posture checks, network visibility, endpoint protection and DNS-layer security. Cisco also supports a transition to zero-trust network access, where identity, device condition and policy are verified before granting limited access to a specific resource rather than trusting an entire connection. For NHS deployments, Secure Client provides the technical access layer rather than the staff identity itself: authentication, multifactor controls, permitted applications and monitoring rules are determined by each trust's infrastructure and security policies.
