University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust formerly ran Bristol Royal Infirmary, Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, Bristol Heart Institute, St Michael's Hospital, specialist eye, dental, cancer and haematology centres, and Weston General Hospital. These sites provided local hospital care for Bristol and North Somerset alongside specialist services for the wider South West.
On 1 July 2026, the trust joined with North Bristol NHS Trust to create Bristol NHS Foundation Trust. The new organisation brings these city and Weston hospitals together with Southmead and other North Bristol sites, employing more than 28,000 people and caring for over 1.1 million patients annually. Its combined specialist portfolio includes major trauma, children's care, neurosciences, cardiology, cancer, burns, transplantation and infectious diseases, supported by university research and teaching.
