Epic

Epic supports electronic clinical documents within the patient chart and provides workflows for scanning, importing, indexing, viewing and signing material that cannot be created as structured EPR data. Media Manager can associate external documents and images with the correct patient or encounter, while release-of-information and document-reference functions support controlled retrieval and sharing. Epic also publishes interfaces for dedicated document management systems, including scan acquisition, inline viewing, signature deficiencies and binary document retrieval. This distinction matters in an EDMS classification: Epic can provide the user-facing chart and document workflow, while a separate repository may store some scanned files. Local configuration determines document types, metadata, retention, access permissions and which legacy records are migrated or linked.
