South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust responds to 999 calls, urgent requests from healthcare professionals and NHS 111 enquiries across south-east England. Its 3,600-square-mile area covers Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Brighton and Hove and north-east Hampshire, combining densely populated towns, rural communities, coastlines and some of the country's busiest motorways.
More than 4,000 staff support patients ranging from people with life-threatening illness or injury to those whose needs can be safely managed at home or in the community. Almost 90% of its workforce works operationally, either face to face or in emergency operations and 111 contact centres. Ambulance crews, clinicians and call handlers coordinate assessment, treatment, referral and emergency transport across this varied region.
